319. Nikhil Ranjan Guha Roy (1888-1974), 320. Nitai Bhattacharya (1900-1970)

Nikhil Ranjan Guha Roy was born in Faridpur in 1888. He joined in revolutionary organisation in his early age.He passed 20 years of his life in prison. His prison mates were Barin Ghosh, Ullaskar Dutta, Upen Bandyopadhyay, Pulin Das etc.He was a bachelor.He devoted his life after independence in social work in Bagmari area.

 Nitai Bhattacharya was born Nadia. He joined in non-cooperation movement in Calcutta at the call of Gandhiji giving up his post graduate study in Philosophy in Calcutta University. He returned to his village, Nadia, and inspired people to organise National School. In 1927-28 he was arrested and suffered prison life in Hijli Jail as a solitary prisoner. He became ill and was shifted to intern at Naabadwip. After release he joined in Nabadwip Hindu School.In 1932 he convened a public meeting as a dictator and roused passion of the people. He was arrested on the stage during delivery  of his lecture and had to undergo jail life for three years in different jails. He became organising secretary Nadia District Forward Bloc and began to orgainse with Hemanta Sarkar as its Chairman. But in that case he invited the anger of the British Govt. He had to leave his village and move to places like Calcutta, Sreerampur, Arambag etc. During this time he was acquainted with Hemanta Dasgupta, Bipin Gangulee, Prafulla Sen and joined the quit India movement. Once in the night he was arrested and was undergone three years imprisonment in 1940-43. In Presidency  jail he had written a Drama titled Michael Madhusudan at the request of Natyacharya Sisir Bhaduri. The drama got a wide reputation. He then took the line in creating dialogue, script writing, and editing. He wrote manuy important drama and was known as the creator of the romantic duet Uttam and Suchitra.
