269. Dharanidhar Goswami (1888-1988)

Dharanidhar was a famous communist leader. He worked always in Trade Union Front. Himself and Gopen Chakrabarty took the leadership in the strike (1927-1928) of the Railway workers of Kharagpur. A rally of 30 thousand workers of different trade unions organised a well disciplined rally in the Congress Session in 1928. Among other leaders Dharanidhar was also in the fore front of the rally.
Later in a meeting of the workers Dharanidhar proposed that the peasants and workers would continue their struggle to remove the exploitation by the imperialists and the capitalists. In the 2nd Jute Workers strike in 1929 he and Kishorilal Ghosh were in the leadership. He was arrested in 1930 in Meerut Conspiracy Case.
