Dwijendralal Roy was born in 1863 in Krishnanagar, Nadia. He was a patriot, a famous poet and a Dramatist. He passed M.A. from Presidency College. He went to England for learning Agricultural Science. He had to endure different tortures for denying to observe Repentance . He became deputy and joined in a service in 1886. He retired before time due to his illness in 1913. He establish a literature association namely " Purnima Sammelan" in 1905.The organisation turned to a gossiping centreIn the  for the intellectuals. In the first meeting among other important persons Rabindranath was present. He had some difference of opinion with Rabindranath. He began writing lyrics since his boyhood. He devoted last ten years of his life in writing Drama. He tried to inspire public by writing historical drama and gave importance to the  glory of the past. The publication of "Bharatbarsha" was his main work though it was published after his death. Once his comic songs gave relief to Bengali youths. "Dhana Danya Pushpa bhara", "Banga Amar, Janani Amar", "jedin sunilo jaladhi hoite" etc were eternal songs sung by the Bengalees. These songs are signs of his patriotism. His historical Drama s were Durgadas, Mebar Patan, Chandragupta etc.
