262. Deven Das , 263. Deben Sen (1897-1971)

Deben Das was born in Midnapore. He was the main pioneer of organising Farmers Association and Communist Party of the district. He suffered imprisonment for long for participating in freedom struggle of 1929-30. He, then , was inspired with the ideas of Socialism after coming in contact with the leaders of the Socialist Party. Later he organised the Farmers Association with the help of Bhupa Panda, Mohini Mandal,saroj Roy, and Dr. Jyotish Ghosh. He became a leader of the District Communist Party.

Deben Sen was born in 1897 in Faridpore While he was reading in M.A., he joined non-cooperation movement and was arrested in Nabab Gannge of Dhaka. He took the leadership in Railway, Tram, Electric Supply workers movement and also in the strike of Jute workers in 1937.In the WWII when he was surrounded, he inspired the British soldiers in revolutionary activities. He was elected in state assembly as a candidate of Congress in 1946 election. In 1951 he joined Workers and Peasants Party. He had connection with Abhoy Ashram.He travelled in  different countries of Europe, America and Asia as a representative of Trade Union.He was bthe leader of the team of representatives of Trade Union Congress held at London. He became elected in Loksabha in 1967.
