361. Purnachandra Das (1889-1056)

Purnachandra Das was born in Faripur in a peasantsfamily in 1889.

 He was inspiredby revolutionary work and formed an orgnisation of 

his own in Madaripur. He was a colleague of Baghajatin in 1914-15. 

The four revolutionaries who fought  along withBaghajatin in Trake

 Fight in Baleswar were of his group.He wasarrested in Faridpur 

ConspiracyCase in 1913 and was released after sometime. He

 was in prison in DI rule during 1914-20.He formed a big organisation

 namely "Bengal Provincial Core" anddevoted himself innon-cooperation

 movement. He was again arrested in1921 for delivering anti-govt.

 lecture. At that timehe was addressing in a Youth Conference in

 Dinajpore and was sent to Injsin and Mandalay Jail



in Burma.Subhas Chandra Bose was the G.O.C. of Congress session and
Purnachandra  was O.C.. in 1928, Calcutta SessionHe was appointed chief
 directorof Bangiya PradeshikConmgress Committee and conducted the
Salt Satyagraha in1930.He wasarrested in Puneand was released in 1938.
 Later he along with Phani Majumdar, Nalini Guha in Forward Bloc of Subhas
 Chandra. and again sent to prison for1940-46.After Independence he gave
up politics and devoted himselfin the welfare of Refugees . Lastly hewas
assassinated by a person his old colleague.
