794. Sandhyarani Singh, 795. Sarama Gupta ( 1882-1950)

Sandhyarani Singh was born in Balia, Uttarpradesh. His husband Lal Bihari Singh was a famous worker in Birbhum. She participated in Freedom movement at the inspiration of her husband.She joined Congress in 1933. She worked as volunteer in Ramgarh Congress in 1940 and joined in Quit India movement in 1942. They were successful in closing Bolpur Court by picketing. She came to Rampurhat and hoisted National flag on Civil Court with Maya Ghosh. Then they sat before the Criminal Courtfor closing it. Armed police came to obstruct them and throw away to the ground Sabitri Gandhi.She, Maya Ghsh, Sabitri Gandhi were arrested. Sandhyarani were jailed for 15 months and was kept in Rahsahi jail.Later she devoted herself in Bhudan Movement.


Sarama Gupta was born in Dhaka. Shw was an educationist, and a social worker.She became widow in an early age and came to her parents ho. She,being a worker of Satyagrahi Sebika Dal participated in civil disobedience movement in Noakhali, Dhaka and was arrested in 1932. She arranged for distribution of unlawful leaflets by making Cyclostyled with the help of female volunteers.She was called as Bardi by the people of Dhaka and outside Dhaka.
