5. Anima Hoare ( ? - 14.4.1984)

Anima Hoare was a freedom fighter, and an important worker in the field of Jute workers and female workers. Her father, Jogendranath Sarkar was an active member in the the secret revolutionary ortganisation. Anima from her childhood was associated with this organisation and took active part in supplying secret information to and fro  this organisation.
She was married with Bijoy Kumar Hoare who also inspired her to take part in political activities for the salvation of the mother land.
She wqas elected as an MLA in 1957 Bidhan Sabha Election from Kalchini constituency of north Bengal.
 (Denis Lakra of Congress won in 1972, 1971, 1967. Nani Bhatacharya of RSP won in 1962 when it was an open seat. Debendra Nath Brahma Mandal and Anima Hoare, both of Congress, won in 1957 when it was a joint seat reserved for ST. )

 The then Chief minister liked her affectionately. Being a representative in the tea plantation area, she used to focuss the pathetic conditios of the workers of tea-garden in the assembly. She spoke with strong ground in the assembly for equal salary of the women workers with that of the male counter part. Being an MLA of the ruling party she used to say critically on certain issues. She placed a demand for probe against malpractices. She put presure on the Govt for helping the displaced persons of east bengal.It was she who forced the authority to fix up the price of the jute. She spoke critically against central Govt. for handing over Berubari to East Bengal.
She joined the workshop of All India Community Development Scheme  in dehradun as a representative from West Bengal.
Lastly, she joined Janata Party. She was called " Joan of Arc" of north Bengal.
