862. Hanuman Prasad Choudhury, 863. Hardayal Nag (1853-1942)

Hanuman Prasad   Choudhury was born in Purulia. He joined in Non-Cooperation movement in 1921 in Orissa and burnt away all the foreign clothes from his own shop. As a result he was arrested and died for extreme torture by the police.



Haradayal Nag was born in a respectable family on 15th September,1853 at Kasimpur Village in Chandpur sub-division in the erstwhile district of Tripura. In spite of many hurdles in life he continued his studies and taught in several schools. He even worked as a journalist and edited a magazine named Bharat Hitoishi. Subsequently, he became a lawyer. The spirit of patriotism ran in his blood and he believed that the nation could be free through national education. He joined Gandhiji’s non-cooperation movement in 1921 and maneuvered such strong non-violent non-cooperation movement at Chandpur that he was called the Gandhi of Chandpur by the people. He also took a formidable role in the violation of The Salt Act, 1930. He Presided over a meeting held on Shraddhananda park on the occasion of Golden Jubilee on 28.12.1935. gandhiji honoured him as a senior man in the freedom struggle. He retired from active politics in his old age. He preached humanism, patriotism and universal brotherhood. The great soul passed away on 20th September 1942.
