197. Charuchandra Chattopadhyay ( 1877-1954), 198. Charu Chandra Dutta (1876-1952)

Charuchandra Chattopadhyay was born in Kolkata in 1877. He was a constructive worker and did a lot in organising industry.Since the movement launched against the partition -f Bengal in 1905, he began manufacturing combs made up of horns of baffalos.and bracelet with celluloid.. He established Eastern Japan Trading Company in 1910 and joined in non-cooperation movement in 1921. He engaged himself to construct dwelling houses in South Kolkata and subarbs of Kolkata after cleaning jungles and filling up of ponds since 1915. He also constructed residential houses in Tollygunge after removing jungles and sold them with minimum prices and with liberal terms.

Charu chandra Dutta was born in Bardwan in 1876. He was a patriot, a story writer and a litterateur. He passed the ICS examination in 1899 and was posted as a magistrate in Bombay Presidency and later promoted to Judge.Though he was a Government servant in a high post, he was cooperative with the revolutionaries of India. He was one of the three secret leaders. The other two were 1. Arobinda Ghosh, 2. Subodh Chandra Mallik. In 1902-1903 he along with Arobinda, Tilak, and Ganesh Deoskar made a plan of an armed revolution and helped in founding "Bhavani Mandir" of Arobinda. He remained internee in 1908 for associating himself with Arobinda in Alipore Conspiracy case for two years. He retired from his service in1925. He was one the judsges in the case of the oppressor Kingsford, Chief Presidency Magistrate of Kolkata. He was also involved in the plan of murder of Andrews, Lt. Governor of East Bengal from  Darjeeling . He was given the responsibilty of writing the history of Congress in the conference of 1928. He was the first person for writing this history.He was the Vice-Chancellor of Vishwabharati University for five years. He came in close contact with Rabindranath Tagore in 1931-1938. He liveds permanently in Pandicherry Ashram of Arobinda and worked for thedevelopment of educationand other constructive work. His important writings are "Purano katha". an Autobiography.
