466. Bishnu Chattopadhyay or Bishtu Thakur (1910-1971), 467. Bishnu Prasad Bera

Bishnu Chattopadhyay was born in a famous Zamindar family of Khulna. He was an historical leader of the peasants movement of Bengal.Many of his brothers and sisters was connected with the secret revolutionary activities under the disguise of Khulna Samity.He was first arrested in connection with a political dacoity case in 1929 while working in Swaraj Ashram of Khalispur. He was detained in Bengal Criminal Case from 1930 to 1938 while participating in Civil Disobedience Movement.He became influenced in Marxism by Pramatha Bhaumik amd Abdur Rezzak Khan while he was in prison. Within very few days after release he took the membership of Communist Party and joined in Peasants movement in Khulna.He , in front of dangerous club men and Rifle men, stood with some thousands peasants and made them spell bound and constructed Dam of tributories of Shovana and dam of Nabeki. He procured lands and distributed among the landless peasants in 1940. He organised peasants conference in 1946 in Maubhak in his locality. After partition he remained in jail as a preventive detention for many days. He constructed school for the peasants and adult education center for adults .   He was murdered mercilessly by the agents of Muslim League.
He had talents of playing instrument and paintings.He passed 24 years in jail. His main work is " Mehanati Manush".    


Bishnu Prasad Bera ws born in Midnapore. He participated in Salt Satyagraha and was wounded by police bullet and died in Kanthi Hospital.
