453. Bipin Behari Ganguly (.5.11.1887-14.1,1954)


Bipin Behari Ganguly was a member of Indian independence movement. He was born in Halisahar North 24 pgs, now in West Bengal, in 1887.
Bipin Behari Ganguli joined the Congress party during the Non-Cooperation Movement and became the secretary of Bengal Congress in 1923.
After Indian independence he held a ministerial post in West Bengal government in the 1950s.
He was renowned freedom fighter and a revolutionary. He was acquainted with Arabindo Ghosh, Barin Ghosh, Rashbehari Bose, Satish Chandra Mukhopadhyay and Tilak during his student life.
It was due to his initiative an organised and disciplined revolutionary team ,titled " Atmonnati Samity"  was formed . He took the leadership of collecting and distributing the "Mashar Pistal" of Rada Company in 1914. He conducted two dacoities, 1. Ariah daha and 2. Agarpara.He participated in the attemptof revolutionary activities  in WWI under the leadership of Bagha Jatin.
He joined Congress in 1921 in the Non-Cooperation movement. He preside over the session of Congress of Bengal Province in 1930 and also joined in Salt satyagraha. He participated in QuitIndia movement in 1942.He passed about 24 years of prison life in different jails, viz., Mandalay, Rangoon, Alipore, etc. He was connected with the trade Union movement and became president of  National Trade union.He became a member of Legislativew assembly of bengal in 1940 and was elected in West Bengal Assembly.
