Chakravarti, Byomkesh (1855-1929), respected barrister and industrialist, and also a prominent political worker from the days of the Swadeshi movement in the early years of the 20th century. He was a member of the Congress, his activities were generally confined to Bengal, and he was wedded to a policy of constitutional agitation. (D.N.B.) 4:286
He was born in Jessore. He became barrister in 1885 and and was posted in Calcutta High Court. He started politics since 1905. He founded Bangalakshi Cotton Mill to boycott foreign clothes.He became president of Bengal Rashtriya Sammelan from 1914-16. He was a vice-President of Indian Association in 1916.He condemned sending of political prisoners to remote islands.He joined Non-cooperation movement in 1920-22 but he was not a follower of Gandhiji. He joined in Swarajya Dal. He was minister in charge of Home of Govt.of India in 1926.27.
Braja Kishore Chakrabarty . was convicted in the murder case of Magistrate Burge of Midnapore. He was hanged in Midnapore jai.
