Bishnupriya Devi was born in Tamargram, Rajsahi. She was a sincere Congress worker. She was married at the age of 11 to a family of patriotic idealism.At the age 13 she became overwhelmed with the speech delivered by the famous Congress leader Sirajuddin Saheb and gave up use of all foreign goods including golden bangles which she liked very much. She became widow at the age of 14. Pandit Digindranarayan Bhattacharya, a Congress devotee through out his life, was her 2nd elder brother in law. He inspired the young girl to the work of her mother land so that she could get solace in her life. She came to Calcutta to meet Congress leader Labanya Prava Dutta who sent her along with 25/26 female Satyagrahees to Shraddhananda Park to hoist a national flag defying 144 cr pc. She was arrested on the spot and remained in prison for 6 months.In the jail she met Kalyani das , Sulata Kar and was influenced by them to join Revolutionary organisation. She joined Jugantar Dal. After release she was elected as a member of Congress Provincial Committee.She was secretary of 22 no. Ward of Calcutta Congress Committee from 1942-48.She was in charge of delivery of revolvers to the revolutionaries, helping them secretly, and giving them shelter. All these she did at the instruction of the revolutionary Sovarani Dutta . She collected fund for the Sarala Punyashram by delivering lectures with the help of the Magic Lantern
