Jogesh Chandra Gupta was an important leader in Bengal Provincial Congress and a Barrister.He was an intimate friend of Deshapriya Jatindramohan Sengupta. He got reputation by advocating on behalf of many defenders of historical political cases.Chittagong Armoury Case, Magitrate of Coomilla, Burge Murder Case, Mechuabazar Bomb Case, Inter Provincial Conspiracy Case, were amongst them. He heartily came forward to defend the revolutionaries.He performed active role as a member of Bengal Constituent Assembly. Once he was the Chief Whip of the Congress parliamentary party . He was one the founders of the daily paper, "Advance". His only son Sadhan Gupta was an Advocate General of West Bengal and member of W.B. Legislative Assembly.
Jnan Chakrabarty was born in Dhaka in 1906. While reading ib B.A. in the University, he at first joined Anusilan Samity snd then in Juganatar Dal. He had to go underground in his student life for participating in revolutionary activities. He was confined in jail, at first in Baksa and then in Deuli. He joined in Communist Consolidation being attracted in Marxian philosophy and organised labour and farmers' association. He took special roles in motivating progressive young Muslims, intellectuals, students, lawyers in 1943-47. He took responsibilities in conducting camps of freedom fighters in Dhaka in 1971from underground. He again went underground in 1975 after the murder of Sekh Mujibar and promulgated military rule. In that situation he was attacked with typhoid and expired.
