Nripendra Chandra was a serious worker in the Congress. He was a Professor as his career.He joined Swarajya Dal giving up his service at the call of Deshbandhu . He participated in non-cooperation movement. He was imprisoned for many years on political reasons. He became editor of "Rangoon mail" in Burma after Gaya Congress. He established educational institution in many places.
Nripendranath Basu,Dr was born in Patna at the working place of his faher. But Burdwan was his ancestral's place. He was a renowned physician and devoted his life in the service of mankind. He was Secretary of Dhaka District Congress Committee in 1921-22 and in 1935-47 in Tripura Congress Committee.Though he was a follower of Gandhiji, he Subhas Chandra Bose in Tripura Congress.He came to Coomilla with some volunteers during riot of 1946 and saved the Kalibari of Mehar. He had arranged Peace Rally in Tripura where Gandhiji took part. He remained in Coomilla after partition but went Kashmir during Kashmir War. As a result Pakistan Govt. issued a notice to leave the place of residence. He came to Calcutta in 12 hours. He became Joint Secretary of Bengal Provincial Congress. He was imprisoned 8 years in different times participating Freedom Struggle. But he left Congress and formed Bengal workers and Peasants Party which merged into Peasants and Workers Party of Acharya KripalaniHe was leader of provincial PSP.
Later he gave all the political parties and joined Bhudan Movement of Acharya Vinobha Bhabe.He founded first non-govt. Medical School of Coomilla with Dr. Suresh Chandra Banerjee which was turned to Medical College and Hospital and he became the Director. He reconstituted Abhoy Ashram in West Bengal after Independence. He wrote an Autobiography "Brotherhood Theke Sabita Mission". He opposed Emergency promulgated in India.
