199. Dr. Charuchandra Sanyal (1897-1980), 200. Charuprava Sengupta (1897 - ?)

Dr. Charuchandra sanyal was born in North Bengal. he was a renowned physician,a politician, a social activist, and a litterateur. Under the influence of his father-in-law, a follower of Gandhism Shyamsundar Chakraborty,  he did not sit for the final MBBS examination. He was jailed for delivering a lecture to defy rules of the King in a students' Conference in 1930. He was also jailed for participating in con-cooperation movement in 1932 and Quit India movement in 1942. He got Rabindra Puraskar 1968 for writing a book on Adibasi of North Bengal tiotled " Rajbansis of North Bengal. He took important role in the foundation of North Bengal University.he was awarded D.Lit by the University of North Bengal. He took important part in the inclusion of Coochbehar with West Bengal.He became a member of MLC from Jalpaiguri in 1978.He was an editor of "Janamath" for long time. Once he was attracted with ideology of Communist party and wrote a book on Communist Manifesto titled "Samybadir Adarsha".

Charuprava Sengupta was born in Mymensingh in 1897. Matish Chandra Dasgupta, founder of Khadi Pratistan, was her brother in law. Her sister Hemaprava took important role in non-cooperation movement in 1921. The renowned  lawyer and progressive writer Dr. Naresh Chandra Dasgupta was her elder brother. She took up politics as her career in 1930 at the call of Gandhiji. She participated in unauthorised meetings, and rallies and Pickettings. She was arrested for delivering lecture to defy rule of lawin 1930 for which she was arrested and fined. She suffered from rigorous imprisonment in 1932 for 16 months. She was in Presidency jail for 10 months for participating in civil disobedience in 1932. She was arrested under Di rule in 1942August movementfor 10 months. After being released in 1943, she sacrificed herself as a reliever  in famine stricken people of Faridpur. She opened a Welfare organisation for Childrens of AIWC in Rajbari. She definite role in obstructing riot in Rajbari by forming peace committee.. .
